There are certain days of the year—and Mother’s Day is one—that makes us reflect on why we at Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services are in the non-medical home care business. Often it is a daughter who calls us looking for help for a family member. Our seasoned caregivers feel that familial connection and strive to be an extension of that love and support for those mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and other mother figures in our lives.
And with the stay-at-home separations the Covid19 pandemic has thrust upon us, we thought that Mother’s Day was the ideal time to express our appreciation for the women in our care, and those who care for them. Many elderly support systems have shut down. Our caregivers truly are ‘essential services’ by providing one-on-one assistance in the homes of seniors throughout Lorain and the surrounding counties
For those battling memory issues, familiar surroundings, routine, and the human touch are so important. Time and again our caregivers will share how calming and comforting it can be to someone suffering from Alzheimer’s to sit together on the sofa listening to music or to open that same dresser drawer and look at those same family photos over and over again. Nature can also provide a sense of peacefulness and refreshment, even if it is enjoyed through the window or from the porch.
But it is often the kitchen where preparing and sharing a meal together can easily lead to reminiscing, laughter, and tears. And this also brings to mind our thoughts on those who have passed on to join family and friends in Heaven. We never lose that urge to pick up the phone and call them.
There are so many incredible women who have provided care services, and many families who have allowed us into their homes. We honor you all this Mother’s Day. You are loved and appreciated more than you know.
If you have a loved one who needs assistance to remain in their own home please contact Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services at 440-935-3848 to see how we can help.
